Gala Bingo Hanley Phone Number

For Sue Griffith it was a wonderful time at Hanley’s Gala Bingo after winning on the Slots. When the pensioner left the Bingo hall with her daughter that evening she was viciously attracted by a mugger who wanted to steal her money.

Sue a 64 year old woman was pushed to the ground and kicked in the stomach. She was then dragged through Hanley’s old bus station holding on dearly to her back where her £400 was.

'He pounced on me from nowhere and went straight for my bag. I was holding onto the bag and he was kicking me and dragging me around the place. It was only when the strap of the bag broke that he stopped and ran away with it.”

The mugger appeared to be desperate to get the cash as Sue added:

'He would have done anything to get the cash. I don't know what would have happened if the strap had not snapped – he could have been facing manslaughter charges but for the grace of God.'

It left emotional scars for daughter Angela and herself stating:

'The whole thing has left us paranoid. Every time I go in the car I make sure the doors are locked and whenever we're out we're always very nervous. I had problems with my speech after it happened. I had a stroke a few months before, and I was getting better, but then this knocked my confidence. We still go to the bingo, but this will always be with us.'

The 40 year old Angela said:

'There was no need for that level of violence – he just threw my mum to the floor, it was vicious. I don't think he realises how many people have been affected. It's been really hard for us, my mum has suffered a lot, and his family must be ashamed of him.'

Angela added:

'Our big bugbear is that the old bus station should have much better lighting and CCTV. We're paying to park there – and you expect some security. The police have been absolutely fantastic. They kept us in the loop and did a great job piecing the case together to find the mugger.'
